LESSON PLAN: Measurement
TEACHER:
MATH: Second grade

I. OBJECTIVE: 17 out of 21 learners will demonstrate understanding of/ability to estimate the length of two objects, within 1 inch, and then measure the two objects with a ruler by completing in pairs WS# 1 with 80% accuracy.

II. SET (WHAT): WS# 1, assorted objects for measuring, measurement bulletin board, overhead, overhead transparency, overhead markers, and rulers.

III. PROVIDING INFORMATION (HOW): (questions, modeling, sequencing, learning principles, monitoring, etc.) The teacher will model how to estimate the length of an object and how to measure an object on the overhead. After finishing, the teacher will ask the students questions about estimating and measuring.

IV. GUIDED PRACTICE (MATERIALS): (monitoring, learning, practice, directions, questions, etc.) The teacher will model estimating and using a ruler to measure objects by measuring objects in front of the class and recording the findings on the overhead. The teacher will select a few students to estimate the length of a straw then measure the straw and record the information.

CLOSURE (EVALUATION): (Does the activity meet the objective? All learners assessed?) 17 out of 21 students will estimate the length of an object within 1 inch, and then measure the object and determine how close they were to the actual length by completing WS# 1 in pairs with 80% accuracy.

V. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (CONTINUING EVALUATION): Working in pairs, students will estimate the length of two objects and then measure the two objects using WS# 1.
