I. OBJECTIVE: 17 out of 20 learners will demonstrate understanding of/ability to find two similarities and four differences each for Hanukkah and Christmas by completing a Venn diagram in pairs with 90% accuracy.
II. SET (WHAT): Venn diagram, Hanukkah wordbank, Christmas wordbank, and attribute blocks. Students will be seated during the demonstration of the lesson. Expectations for the lesson are that students will listen carefully to the directions so that they can successfully complete the Venn diagram.
III. PROVIDING INFORMATION (HOW): (questions, modeling, sequencing, learning principles, monitoring, etc.) The teacher will model how to compare two items using a Venn diagram on the board. After finishing, the teacher will ask the students questions about comparisons using Venn diagrams.
IV. GUIDED PRACTICE (MATERIALS): (monitoring, learning, practice, directions, questions, etc.) The teacher will model using Venn diagrams to make comparisons on the board using attribute blocks. The teacher will select a few students to provide the answers for the differences and similarities of the attribute blocks.
CLOSURE (EVALUATION): (Does the activity meet the objective? All learners assessed?) 17 out of 20 students will correctly label two similarities and four differences each for Hanukkah and Christmas by completing a Venn diagram in pairs with 90% accuracy.
V. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (CONTINUING EVALUATION): Working in pairs, students will write two similarities between Hanukkah and Christmas and four differences for each on a Venn diagram.
