LESSON PLAN: Sentences - Making sense
TEACHER:
LANGUAGE ARTS: Second grade

I. OBJECTIVE: 17 out of 20 learners will demonstrate ability to write three sentences that make sense with 95% accuracy by constructing, in cooperative groups of four students, sentences using the sentence cubes provided by the teacher.

II. SET (WHAT): Overhead, overhead transparencies, overhead markers, WS# 1, sentence strips, pocket chart, sentence cubes. Students will be seated during the demonstration of the lesson. Expectations for the lesson are that students will listen carefully to the directions so that they can successfully write three sentences that make sense.

III. PROVIDING INFORMATION (HOW): (questions, modeling, sequencing, learning principles, monitoring, etc.) The teacher will model how to use the sentence cubes, following the directions on the overhead. After finishing, the teacher will ask the students questions about writing sentences that make sense.

IV. GUIDED PRACTICE (MATERIALS): (monitoring, learning, practice, directions, questions, etc.) The teacher will model using the sentence cubes, following the directions on the overhead, and by writing the words on sentence strips. The teacher will select a few students to complete a second sentence, using the guidelines on the overhead.

CLOSURE (EVALUATION): (Does the activity meet the objective? All learners assessed?) 17 out of 20 learners will demonstrate ability to write three sentences that make sense with 95% accuracy, by constructing, in cooperative groups of four students, sentences using the sentence cubes provided by the teacher.

V. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (CONTINUING EVALUATION): Working in cooperative groups, students will write three sentences that make sense using the sentence cubes and by completing the sentence guidelines listed on the overhead.
